Here’s a little snippet of how the indigenous people of Meghalaya ferment soy beans to make Tungrymbai!
Tungrymbai is a fermented soybean food dish common to the ethnic tribes of Meghalaya.
How is it made?
First, the soy beans are fermented. The fermented soybeans are crushed lightly in a wooden mortar and pestle. This is what we call pre-cooked Tungrymbai, which is ready to be sold in markets.
This pre-cooked Tungrymbai is easily available in the markets and is consumed throughout the winter months. Depending on the preference of the people, the tungrymbai is also cooked with pork and black sesame seeds. Head over to our website or download our App for the Tungrymbai recipe to start cooking.
